A drive nosie after WinXP reinstall

I recently reinstalled WinXP Home version 2002. Everything
works including the A: drive. What the problem is that
when I go to turn the computer off after using the A:
drive to edit addresses I have on the floppy the A: Drive
now makes a nosie the entire time the computer is shutting
down. The computers file system is now NTFS instead 0f
FAT32. I do not know if this is the problem or not. Please
can someone help!!!! It is driving me nuts.
