A couple questions about Outlook Mail

M

MS

Using Outlook 2003 (with all of Office 2003), and Windows XP Pro with SP2.

Isn't there any way to use stationery in an e-mail message, if one didn't
start with the stationery.

Easy to do in Outlook Express. Choose format-HTML, if that isn't chosen
already. Then Format-Apply Stationery.

I see no such option in Outlook. I know how one can start a new message with
stationery--"Actions"--"New mail message using....". But shouldn't there
also be a way to apply stationery later, if one hadn't thought of it at the
beginning? (If not, there sure should be.)

A couple questions regarding putting a picture in an HTML e-mail.
Resizing--there seems to be no constraint in preserving the aspect ratio of
the picture. So if one is not very careful, the picture can become very
distorted in resizing. I tried pressing Alt, CTRL, Shift, while resizing
(not all three together, each tried alone, separately), to see if that would
constrain the aspect ratio to preserve it while resizing, and it didn't
work. Isn't there any way to set it to preserve the aspect ratio of
pictures?

When I put a picture in an e-mail today, clicked "Browse" to choose a
picture, and navigated to the directory it was in, I saw the files in an
order (many files in the directory) that would make it hard to find the one
I wanted. So I chose "Details" from the view preference menu, then clicked
on the "Name" heading to see the files in the folder in alphabetical order.
Fine, it worked. I put several pictures in this e-mail, however. So, next
time I clicked "Browse", it went right to the last folder opened. Fine.
However, the files were in that other order again. I again had to click
"Details", and the "Name" column again. This happened every single time, in
putting several pictures in the e-mail. Why isn't my viewing preference for
the folder remembered?

I know the problem in the preceding paragraph, concerning remembering my
viewing preference for the folder, might have more to do with Windows
Explorer than with Outlook. However, since it occurred in Outlook, I'll ask
here, in case it has anything to do with Outlook. Even if it doesn't, if
anyone could give me any insight into having my viewing preference for a
folder remembered, I would appreciate it.

If anyone could give any help with any or all of the three annoyances above,
I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Remember, outlook's intended for use as a business client and lacks many of
the html editing options in OE. You can create in OE and paste into OL...

to apply stationery later, use Format, Theme is word is your editor.

Are you using word or outlook's editor? right click in word and choose
format picture to adjust the aspect ratio if you aren't dragging by the
corner.

Well, OE is free and Outlook costs money. So I don't see why Outlook Mail
should be inferior to OE in any respect. I think Microsoft should improve
the HTML capabilities of Outlook mail, to be at least as good as OE's, or
better.
to apply stationery later, use Format, Theme is word is your editor.

I just tried that. When I chose "Theme" I did not see my stationery to
choose from. Outlook must know where my stationery is, for if I click (on
starting a new message) "Actions", "New Mail Message Using...", I do see my
stationery. But in choosing "Theme" I do not. Any way to get my stationery
recognized there? There really should be a way, if one starts writing a
message and then wishes to format it with stationery, to do so, not only
when one thinks of it at the beginning.

I usually use Word as my e-mail editor in Outlook. I realize now that when I
ran into the problem described (of the aspect ratio not being locked when
resizing a picture by dragging the corner, so that it could get very
distorted), I was not using Word as my e-mail editor. I just tried it now
with Word as the editor, and the AR was locked while dragging a corner. In
case I am ever not using Word as the e-mail editor again though, is there
any way (hotkey, etc.) while using Outlook as the e-mail editor, to
constrain the AR of a picture while resizing it by dragging. (As I said, I
chose Alt, CTRL, and Shift, each separately by itself while dragging the
corner, and none of the three would constrain the AR.

I hope Microsoft improves the e-mail capabilities of Outlook. (Do they check
these boards at all for user suggestions? Do the MVPs report on user
suggestions for product improvements to Microsoft?)

(PS--in case anyone is curious--my newsgroup user name, MS, are just my
initials, it has nothing to do with Microsoft.)
