A common MSDE install problem

I have WindowsXP sp1 PC, when I install
windowsXp embeded, the first Tools setup is ok, but when I
setup the MDSE, it displayed a dialog with "the instance name specified is
invalid."
and the setup is ended.

Anyone can tell me what's wrong with it and how to solve it please?

In your terms of agreement (the package that includes the product
key/sticker) line 12 states that you may not distribute the MSDE in any
manner. 8(

I saw this problem when installing the pre-SP1 version. I was able to get
around it by changing the order in which I installed the components. The
first thing you should do is use the Add/Remove Programs control panel
applet to remove anything that you already installed from the CD (Windows XP
Embedded Tools, Windows XP Embedded Database, Microsoft SQL Server Desktop
Engine). After that, insert the installation CD and install MSDE first, then
the database, and then the tools.

When I was experiencing the same problem as you, I found that installing
those components in that order kept that error message from appearing.
