A 176k ~ file on desktop

Just reinstalled XP home. This is, after update installs
nearly the first site I've visited and the ~ file was
written to my desktop: Today, November 18, 2003, 06:58:29
while I was here with XP's firewall active.

Shold I say thank you to someone?

What safely gets rid of it?

It's a bug in OE - it's a copy of your address book. Ignore it or delete it.

The tilde (~) is a result of this patch:

The file is created when certain changes are made to your address book.

Throw it in the Recycle Bin and empty. It is an unnecessary copy of your
Outlook address book (contacts) file created by a bug in several recent
Microsoft updates. Your real address book file will remain untouched after
you delete the file. As I understand it, Microsoft is aware of the problem
and will probably fix it in a future update. Until then, the copies may
occasionally be created as you edit or access the address book. You can
throw those files away also.

Hi Will!
This happens when you make a change and/or view the Address Book. You
can either rename it with a .dbx extension or delete it. It came about
from the update numbered: 330994.
