Five of their local stores in Michigan still have them. Do you have any in
your area?

Price match it somewhere else. I got one after Christmas at Bestbuy by price
matching Micrcenter. I knew they were out of stock but I didn't blink.
Bestbuy even called Microcenter. I think Bestbuy just didn't want to lose a
sale.

Hi All,
I have it available at my favorite CompUSA (10 miles) and four others (MD
and Northern VA). The 9600XT is selling for 199.99 also, (with no mail-in
rebate) - the 9800Pro is $229.99 - a $30 mail-in rebate. Of course if
CompUSA has a presence in your state you'll pay the sales tax + S/H. If I
drive over first thing in the morning I'll be able to pick it up for $229.99
+ 4.5% = $240.34 - $30 rebate $210.34. PriceWatch indicates =that it may be
bought online for $215 (OEM) - $229 (Retail incl S/H) so it seems that
CompUSA is still the best deal.

Quandry - should I defer buying the $275-$295 Lian-Li PC-75 case, and buy
the 9800Pro instead or should I buy the Lian-Li case and continue using my
old 9500Pro for awhile and hope the 9800Pro becomes available at a good
price within the next two or three months?? The 9800Pro probably will not
show any speed increase or advantage over my 9500Pro in my current box.
(Abit BE6II, Coppermine 600A, 256M Mushkin High Speed 133 RAM, etc) but I
could use my current case (InWin 500A full Tower) for my new computer
(IC7-Max3, P4 2.8C, etc.) and upgrade to the new case later.

Sorry for the rambling but it takes me 30' to choose a cereal at the Safeway
<G>. What do you guys think?

Wellllll now. What a coincidence we have here. I too, used to have an InWin
500A mid tower (a.k.a. P.O.S.). A few months ago I finally splurged and made
the switch to my LianLi PC-6070 (Silent) case, and WOW what a difference. If
I was in your shoes I'd definitely go with the LianLi case over the 9800
pro. Then I'd save to redo the guts of the system. Once you have your
mobo/cpu/memory upgraded to where you're going to be for the next year or
two, then get the vid card to match it. Don't waste money on a powerful vid
card if you're only feeding it 600mhz worth of vertex data.

I just bought one of these today (after returning an FX5900 that had
horrible ghosting probs with text and high contrast).

There were none on the shelf, but when I asked, they produced some from the
lock up area. Price is actually $229.00 with a $30.00 mail in rebate.
Either way, same price as the Verto FX5900SE.

I'm very happy with this 9800 Pro. It's my first ATI card in a looong time.
Been a died in the wool Nvidia fan for many years now. Overall, I'm very
happy with it. Crispness of output is outstanding and the 3D performance is
excellent.
So far, it runs all of my games without a glitch or a crash.

Glad now I went with it. Just came over from the Nvidia group..wow...what a
bunch of punks. Asked a question about the ghosting and all I got was an
earful of armchair quarterbacking and some punks running their mouths. Sure
hope it's not like that on this side of the video card pond...

OUCH! Tony, you *really* know how to hurt a guy <BG>. I made a mistake, my
case is an InWin Q500P *full* tower. About the only one I could find way
back about 1994? with 5 external 5.25s and a slide out mobo tray. Anyway
it's too late. I hit my CompUSA about 1015 this morning. There were no
9800Pros on the shelf but a great salesman found the last one in the stock
room. I finally decided that buying a $250-$300 Lian-Li case which probably
wouldn't be compatible with the new BTX form factor might not be a wise
move.

Congrats on your choice of cases - I've been looking at the 6070 for months
(it's a *great* case) but I must have 6 external 5.25s so that influenced my
decision the get the PC-75. I just hope that Lian-Li will have one for the
BTX mobos. I won't be running the 9800Pro with my 600MHz chip for more than
a few weeks. By then I should have the Abit IC7-Max3, PC Power & Cooling 510
Deluxe PS, and P4, 2.8C installed in my in my POS InWin <VBG>. Thanks for
the advice - CYA -

Lol. Ah well.. either way you would have gone would have been a good
decision. I would have gone with the LianLi case first, but I'm biased
because of how much I love their cases. So you got the vid card first. No
biggie. The order's not so important. Just get your PC-75 ASAP... you won't
regret it. I mean...no joke, LianLi does for PC cases what Mercedes does for
cars.
