is the 256 worth the extra 100$? I seem to be unable to find any tests on
this one.
thanks

The extra 128meg seems to be just "for show" at the moment...wait a little
longer for the next cards to actually take advantage of it. If you're
interested now buy the 128 version...I have both versions (one PNY, one
Powercolor) and their 3dmark 2003 scores only differ by ~45 points.

If you play your games at 1600x 32 bit with 6xAA and 4xAnio then yes.
you need the 256 version. Otherwise.. it's overkill.

Who plays at 1600x res??

And with that much on-board memory, does the AGP speed (i.e.: 2x/4x/8x) even
matter?

Oh definately...The card can cache all the data it wants into memory, but if
the card can only send at 4x, it's acting as a bottle neck on the AGP bus.

Valve has mentioned that Half-life 2 will make use of 256 meg cards with
extra visuals, not just AA and AF.

LOL I know what that feels like.

I went for a 9800 Pro (Crucial) under the assumption that it'll play Half
Life 2 as sweet as. I'm sure it will... It'll be fine, yes.

Me, until I found out that I was getting headaches from my monitor's slower
refresh rate at 1600 (72hz), then I switched to 1152/100hz. With a better
monitor/videocard I would play at 1600 for sure.

I've been playing GTA:Vice city at 1600*1200x32 @ 85Hz

I used ReForce - it seems to either set the default refresh rate or remove
the lower refresh rates. The lower resolutions like 640*480 are running at
120Hz on my Sony G400.
