Don't buy an ATI 9600XT based video controller unless it is a genuine retail
ATI 9600XT, as most other "builders" that are using the ATI 9600XT chipset
have not fully followed the ATI reference design, used old PCB's that were
"in stock"
to rush product out for Christmas holiday, and have not enabled the ATI
"OVERDRIVE"
feature.

You normally get a warning of the main site of ATI and Nvidia saying that
the drivers avialable are for the reference design and may not be suitable
for some makes of cards. This warning seems to have got smaller and buried
in the small print. So the card makers would argue that the problem isn't
that have not followed the reference design but that users have not noticed
the download warnings with the reference drivers and not waited for the card
makers own drivers.

I have an asus card and there is no sign of the Overdrive facilty using the
reference drivers yet Asus's own smart facility monitors all kinds of
voltage and temps, and overclocks the card.
