911 - Startup Doesn't Proceed to Log In or Desktop

Hi There, I'm using a neighbors computer because my
computer at home is acting up. I get through the boot
part, then the windows xp logo (with the scrolling bar
that shows it's loading) never stops. It won't load my
log in page and I can't get to a desktop?

I have Norton SystemWorks and used Disk Doctor prior to
this happening.

Thanks so much if anyone can help me!!!!!

Disk Doctor fixes damaged files if it can. Deletes or converts them to
*._dd files if it can't. It's possible some of the files (system or
drivers) that are necessary to boot the system were damaged. Or it may just
be a coincidence and something else is going on.

If you can bring up the Advanced Start Menu (press F8 after POST and before
Windows starts to load), you could try booting with the Last Known Good
Configuration. If that doesn't work, try going into Safe Mode. Event Viewer
may have some clues about what the problem is. With that knowledge, you may
be able to fix whatever is broken.

Using System Restore is another possible option from Safe Mode too.

If Disk Doctor did find damaged system files or if the other mentioned
alternatives failed, your next option would be a repair install of Windows.
If you have a retail CD of XP, see:
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315341

If your Windows XP was pre installed, check the directions in the system's
manual for repairing and restoring.
