delete a file, one warning is enough! If I want to install a program
one warning is enough!

of the folders this way. In Folder Options the Apply to All Folders

other programs.
6) Why does it take so long to install and uninstall some

Hi Ron,
1) Fresh install - If my hard drive crashes how do you reinstall
the Vista Upgrade?

You have to reinstall the old OS first, and then the Vista upgrade. Note
that if you search the web you can find how to use the Vista upgrade as
the qualifying product to upgrade, but either way you will have to do two
complete OS installs.

2) Disabled startup software warning - How do I disable the
warning and enable my software that I installed? If I did not want it
to work I would not have installed it!

I'm not sure what you are talking about here.
3) How do I disable all the stupid warnings? If I chose to
delete a file, one warning is enough! If I want to install a program
one warning is enough!

Search on UAC - User Access Control. You can turn it off.
4) I want folders to open in the "List View" How do I make all
of the folders this way. In Folder Options the Apply to All Folders
is grayed out!

I have no idea why it would be grayed out.
5) Why does my keyboard put a letter and a number on the screen
when I only hit one key. I have seen this at logon and in work and
other programs.

I'm guessing an out of date keyborad driver.
6) Why does it take so long to install and uninstall some
programs QuickBooks 2006 took over 2 hours to install program and the
and patch. Adobe Acrobat must have taken at least 45 minutes then I
find none of the versions of Acrobat work with VISTA!

The latest Acrobat Reader should work with Vista. I installed it
on Vista without a problem. Are you installing the Reader, or
the full Acrobat? Why your installs are taking so long I don't
know. Do you have at least a gig of RAM?
7) How can I make the START menu expand into 2 columns without
the slider bar? I don't want the Windows 98 classic style, I would
like the XP Style

Don't know.
8) I came back after lunch and turned my computer on and I had no

off!! I had them enabled! How did this get changed?

Do you have Microsoft One Care installed? If so, search the One Care
site. I've seen something like this, but I don't remember how I fixed it.
9) It appears that none of the versions of Adobe Acrobat work on
Vista - How do I create a PDF file?

I'm almost positive that you can get a free add-on for MS Word 2007 that
will creae pdf files. I remember installing it.

Many thanks for getting back to me - Item #2 - when I boot up over by
the clock in teh system try a pop up keeps coming up saying it wants
to disable some of my startup programs. When I click on the popup it
is Windows Defender and it shows a program that I installed called
sMartcAps - it make it so you can adjust the amoun of time you have to
hold down the caps lock for it to turn on. I am foever hitting the
caps lock. Tthere is no place I can tell the Windows Defender to
allow my program.

I have a Gig and a half of RAM. - Some programs install like normal
BUT Adobe and QuickBooks took forever.

I don not have MS One Care installed unless it came with Vista.
Windows Defender was installed by the OS install not me.

Another strange thing with the Network stuff. The workgroup also got
changed back to Wrokgroup from Corporate.

Thanks

Also, the free Open Office suite will create pdfs. You can get it at
www.openoffice.org .
And I know I've seen lots of free or cheap shareware that will let you do it
as well.

The reason your getting the security warning on startup is the program is
trying to access an area of the registry that programs are not supposed to
access. Hence the program is not compatible with Vista and you either need
to look for a newer version, another program, or dont use it.

Its because your installing versions not compatible with Vista. Quickbooks
2k7 is the only Vista compatible version and you need a new version of adobe
acrobat as well.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 installs and works just fine on Vista. However, if
you want to install Reader 8, you must have the User Account Control enabled.
You can disable UAC after you have completed the install.

There are a number of programs out there to create pdf's, beside, of course,
Adobe Acrobat. Perhaps the easiest to install and use is pdf995 which
installs as a printer. Works beautifully. But if you do a search on Google
for PDF I'm sure you'll find many options, including FoxIt PDF Reader and
Editor.

It may already have been answered here but disabling the User Account
Control will eliminate most of the annoying warnings you are talking about.

Many Thanks for all the help. Once I disabled UAC Acrobate 7 started
downloading and installed 3 or 4 patches. (I thought I had them
installed but with all my frustartion I could not see the forest
through the trees. ) After the patches were installed Acrobat worked
fine.

This one is one question I still cant figure out - I want folders
to open in the "List View" How do I make all of the folders this way.
In Folder Options the Apply to All Folders is grayed out!

I had booted my Vista Laptop first thing this morning. When I left
for lunch I shut down the machine. When I returned from lunch I
started the laptop again. After I logged in the computer sat at the
next screen for 5 minutes before the desktop came up.

This has not happened before.

Many Thanks again!
