845 to 865

Moved all components from Aopen AX4GEN to Gigabyte GA-8IPE100 Pro-G
motherboard. Original cpu was Celeron 2.4GHz 128 2nd level cache, to
Pentium Prescott 2.4 GHz 1MB cache 845 to 865 chipset difference. Not much
of change in my opinion. Both using Award bios.

Found that:
XP repair option couldn't see the original XP install for repair option.
Windows ME was showing one bogus drive letter. Windows 98SE was showing two
of the same. Both inaccessible at zero bytes.
After much hair pulling, new install of ME on formatted original partition,
same bogus drive letter, removed and reinstalled the partition. Same new ME
install, fixed it.
XP repair did fixboot and fixmbr. Fixmbr was fixing file allocation
problems for 15 minutes in the XP NTFS partition. But worked fine
afterwards.
Its obvious to me there was some minor CHS difference in the interpretation
of the boot hard drive (WD 80GB)between the two motherboard bios. I thought
this went away a few years ago?
Obviously not. Yet, don't see this mentioned as part of advice when moving
to another motherboard.

Jonny,

Interesting, I would have though it would have been easier of a transfer.
Thanks for the information.
