811493 Critical Update Again and Again and Again

I've installed both the first and second version of the
above update yet Windows update keeps insisting that I
perform the installation again. I've tried renaming the
catroot folder but the problem still exists on a number of
my XP home machines. Any ideas?
 
This is one reason I have yet to re-install that particular Hotfix, after
trying to uninstall it, my machine crashed, OS wouldn't boot and I had to
re-install XP....I think this one is to be avoided at all costs, at least
until something is done about it.
