7CD changer takes forever to cache dirs

I have a Mountain 7 cdrom changer scsi connected to win2k pro. whenever I
boot the OS takes forever to load as the changer appears to be reading every
CDROM in it and doing whatever. Whenever I open My Computer or do any
windowing with file and directories within it, the changer is always active
(apparently i assume) reading every cdrom and doing whatever it and the OS
have to do. It drives me nuts to the extent thats its a no go, and now I
leave it switched off. Is there any way of speeding this process up, or
eliminating it, or only reading a CDROM when the OS is pointed to a cdrom?

See tip 73 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com
As this was written for Windows NT, use
tip 324 to set the Start Value Name at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdaudio
to 3.

Shutdown and restart.
