70W adapter vs. 90W

Inspiron 8200 not operating in performance mode after AC
adapter failure.

After my original 90W adapter failed, I used a 70W
adapter from an earlier laptop. A warning message
appeared: "3.5A AC 70W adapter detected. System will not
be capable of running in full performance mode without a
4.5A AC 90W adapter". The system operated fine in 70W
mode until my 90W replacement adapter arrived (2 days),
with one exception - the battery would not charge during
that period.

Now that I have an exact 90W replacement (DELL), my
computer still gives me the warning notification as if it
detects a 70W adapter, and my battery will still not
charge.

Lloyd,

Have you tried shutting the computer down, removing the battery, turning the
computer on while plugged into the AC, and when you're logged into Windows,
plugging the battery back in?
