Really?? I've actually checked the temp on my card after running the
"Open pipes" screensaver all night, and the temperature was up by only
two degrees or so.

Right now my card (a Gigabyte card with a 6800GS) is running at 44° C,
and I have only ordinary desktop applications running. The case
temperature is 23.8° C, room temperature varies from 18.6° C at floor
level to 22.1° C above the PC. Disk drives are at 28° C and the CPU
itself is at 44° C.

I haven't noticed any increase in temperature in the video card when
playing video. That doesn't seem to put much of a load on the card.

I'll get back with you on this one. I'm about to shut this rig down and
treat me to a pair of 7800GTX's in SLI :)

I'm picking up my 2nd eVGA 7800GTX card in about an hour!)))))
Yeah, I like eVGA. Plain box, no bundled games or frilly stuff
notwithstanding. Again, THEY WORK. And for a good price too.

Thanks for the tip. Bundled games are worse than purchased games,
most of which I never play. The computer games I like don't come
bundled and already provide more than enough entertainment.

Have fun.

Stop the presses McG! Did you know about the Free Motherboard promo from
eVCA? Buy a 7800GT card and get a free Intel PCIx MB. I'm not ready to
upgrade to PCIx yet and when I do I'll want an Overclocking MB but the offer
looks pretty good. Check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/8wa7o

Way too late for me Ed, I ordered my 7800GTX this past Sunday. It's in the
system now. Twins! They are adorable!! LOL! I picked up more than 20
fps in HL2 Lost Coast video stress test, going from 70.84 fps with one card
to 94.36 with SLI. 3DMark06 score went from sub 5000 to 7297. Nothing is
overclocked, all stock clocks.
The games look incredible AND smooth as silk.

The only hitch right now is when SLI is enabled, I can use only one monitor.
Although when not in SLI I can hook up 4 monitors to the cards if I like.
All DVI. Two is fine though, thanks :)

New power supply doing fine. The Twins are doing fine :)

GOtta go play some more FEAR!

Are you playing with all the visual effects turned on, except for maybe soft
shadows? Can you maintain an average of 60 fps above 800x600?

No. fr's were in the 40's with the 6800GT and x2 4800+, 2 gigs ram. I ran
it in 1024x768 though. Anything less looks like unadulterated crap on my
LCD's. And I did have everything on except soft-shadows.
I'll let you know what FEAR says about the x2 4800+ and 2 7800GTX's in SLI.
