64-bit Windows...what's it take?

I have a client asking about using 64-bit versions of XP and Vista on the
hardware we're supplying. The relevant info is Pentium D 820 on an Intel
DG965SS motherboard.

Will this setup run XP-64? What are the general requirements for running
64-bit XP? Is 64-bit Vista any different than 32-bit?

---I'm not concerned about apps here, that's the client's problem.

a 64 bit processor is the usual first requirement.

be sure it will not be the clients problem when their programs will not run on the computer YOU sell them.
best do home work to see what they do need to run and provide intelligent advise on what to do.

I'm lucky in this case...I'm not a normal dealer. We provide the computer
for a special-purpose training course (CompTIA A+) and for any other use
they're on their own. It's kind of ironic that we'll have the students take
the thing apart, put it together, bust XP 20 different ways just to fix it,
and a lot more...all covered under a nice warranty and tech support. But if
they load x64 or Vista (or Linux) they can't call us.

Thanks guys, turns out my Pentium D does 64, and so does the DG965
motherboard.
