Hi

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the 64bit compiler and libraries
for the AMD64. Unfortunately I don't have access to MSDN and for some
strange reason microsoft is not making them downloadable. This seems a
strange way to encourage people to port apps to 64 bit ?

GCC fully supports the Opteron. Install one of the 64 bit Linux
distributions and you'll get 64 bit compilers and libraries. Mandrake 9.2
is available in an AMD64 flavor as is SUSE 9.1.

Surely you realise they'll want at least an arm and both legs for it? If
you're one of the developers they actually care about then you'll already
have MSDN. As for their year long "free trial" licenses for their beta
AMD64 OSs. Well IMO, that's an attempt to prevent Linux getting too much
of a lead on them. The fact is that AMD64 and Linux development have been
going on pretty much together. Microsoft have seriously dropped the ball
over this one and are now trying to catch up.

As somemone interested in AMD64 development you might find the site
www.amd64.org quite interesting.

Order the 2003 DDK from Microsoft. It's free but there's a s/h charge of
$15 in my case. Everything you need is in the DDK.

Yes, get rid of your ISP's news server and purchase a premium news
server service.

www.newscene.com still contains the entire DDK in the ibm-pc
newsgroup.

Ok got myself a decent news feed (newscene.com) I can see all the bits of
the DDK infact there are multiples.

I select one of each part of the RAR no PARs or NFO's

Right click combine and decode and I end with a huge email which then gets
checked for hyperlinks.


I've saved the email as txt. What next ???

Do I have to use yenc32 or something else ?

Ok got myself a decent news feed (newscene.com) I can see all the bits of
the DDK infact there are multiples.

I select one of each part of the RAR no PARs or NFO's

Right click combine and decode and I end with a huge email which then gets
checked for hyperlinks.


I've saved the email as txt. What next ???

Do I have to use yenc32 or something else ?

With Outlook Express, yes you'll have to run it through yenc32. OE
doesn't support yenc directly. OE is really terrible for binaries in the
first place. If you feel like downloading all over I would suggest a
better newsreader, like Xnews (http://xnews.newsguy.com) but you can run
what you have through yenc32. You should end up with all the separate
RAR files that you can run through WinRAR and extract to a temp dir,
then run Setup. The web site instructions suggest installing to
c:\winddk because the modified setenv.bat file that you need to grab is
configured to look in c:\winddk, so don't install to the default
c:\program files (x86)\... dir.

Grab Xnews. It's made for binaries and will do yenc transparently. You
don't have to fool with all the combining and decoding that OE force
upon you either. It's worth the time of downloading them all over, IMO.

I apologize for not finding an easier way to get these to you but pay
news servers hide your IP and even though M$ claims this DDK is FREE I
still don't feel comfortable attaching my IP to the post.

Hate to think about the fact that you guys are talking about the latest
processor, moving some software around usenet, and dont really understand
that yenc generally makes a "larger" download than other options.

Do some research before slamming me on this
