I've tried to install a game and some other software but each time I get the
error message -6005 and I'm unable to install. What is this error message and
how can I fix it?

Are you trying to install from cd/dvd? I've Googled around and the results
are ambiguous. Several hits suggest that the problem lies with the optical
drive being bad. You can test this by 1) trying the cd in a different drive
or computer; 2) and if the install cd works fine in another machine,
swapping out the drive for a known-working one.

The other Google hits suggest that there is a mismatch between what the
Windows Installer expects to find and the install files. Since the problem
happens to you with more than one program, I would look at the hardware
first.

I have 2 DVD drives and the same happens on both. On the error message it
says close any running programs, empty your temporary folder. To empty a
temporary folder is there one button to press somewhere to do this or do you
have to go to the temporary folder and do it manually?

As always, ask yourself The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed
between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

Since I last installed something I've been having problems with delayed write
failure with my MFT file but I don't see why this would be the cause. I did
turn off enable write caching but I still have the problem with the delayed
write failure. I do regular checks with Norton, spybot and ad-ware.

"Since I last installed something".

Start your troubleshooting there, even if you don't see why this would be
the cause. You need to rule out whatever it was you did in a more
methodical way than by just guessing.
