5840 CAN be activated

Just by copying two files from RC2 into the same folders on 5840 you can
activate with your rc2 key.
It works.
Have seen it done.

So, care to tell us which two files, from where to where?

I know the answer to that one............
did it, tried it, it worked.
Mine is now activated.
Now says it is Windows Vista(TM)
Evaluation copy 5840
Never said that before.

1) Browse to "X:\Windows\System32\Licensing\pkeyconfig" folder, right-click
"pkeyconfig.xrm -ms", open property, click Security > Advanced > Owner >
Edit > Administrators. Click OK and close property. Reopen property, click
Security > Advanced > Edit > Double-Klick Administrators > click Full
Control, click OK the close property.

2) Replace "pkeyconfig.xrm -ms" using file of same name copied from same
place in RC2.

3) Right-click Computer > Manage , Click Services and Applications >
Services, find "Software Licensing" and stop it.

4) Input
"X:/Windows/ServiceProfiles/NetworkService/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/SoftwareLicensing"
in
address bar, take ownership and full control of "Tokens.dat" using the same
way. (X is your Vista 5840 partition. For example: mine is C:\ )

5) Replace "Tokens.dat" using the Tokens.dat copied from RC2.

6) Restart Windows Vista, you will be prompted "Your Windows licence have
been changed". Now you can input your RC key to activate Windows Vista 5840!

Please restart Vista after activation. You can see the expired time of
evaluation copy "07/6/1" in winver, because you are using the 5744 licence.
