500 Internal Service Error

I've seen this question before but never seem to get the answer I'm looking for.

When trying to log onto one particular secure website, I get a 500 Internal Service Error. I use Windows XP and IE 6--I've installed the latest security update, which I think is the problem b/c it has the bug that requires the 31167 fix (which, by reading the description should have solved my problem exactly, however I DID install it and it DID NOT work)

Any other suggestions?

This is an error message returned by the server you are attempting to
access. There is nothing you can do but wait for the site owner to fix their
website code.

The specifics of 500 errors are by default hidden from Internet Explorer
errors. If you want a more specific error message to be returned, try this:

- Open Internet Explorer (this is for version 6 - other's are fairly
similar)
- Click on the Advanced tab
- Uncheck the "Show friendly HTTP error messages"

Visit the site you were previously receiving the 500 error from and hey
presto the specific error will be displayed.

Usually these tend to be generated by ASP scripts which have errored on the
web server. If I was to make a guess, the most common problem is with
connections to databases via ASP.

I've already tried this website and the one that sounds the most like the problems I've been having are the last link "You cannot log on to a Web site or complete an Internet transaction, or you receive an HTTP 500 (Internal Server Error) Web page". So, I downloaded the fix and it still doesn't work.

As for the other reply, I know it is just a problem with my computer because I can access the website at other computers. To be more specific, it is a portal website for my college where you can enroll for classes online. After clicking the semester that I want to enroll for, it should go to the screen where you enter your call number, etc but instead a screen comes up that says "Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request." Even after unclicking the "show friendly HTTP error messages" and it still says the same thing. Also, I've been having some problems with my online banking and credit card websites. I can use them okay but the shortcuts don't work the way they use to (I can't go straight to the log in page, I have to bookmark the main pages then use links)

Maybe I should also mention that I recently just reinstalled my operating system, Windows XP Professional. My laptop is a Gateway that came with ME originally then I upgraded. But my pc was acting wierd (I think b/c of the upgrade) so I then installed XP from scratch and then had to start over with updates, downloads, drivers, etc.

Any other suggestions? Thanks,

Can someone plesae help me

Maybe I should mention a few other things to be detailed:

I said in the other reply post that I have problems with my bank and credit card pages. When I try to go the bank website, it says:
****
CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

Unexpected error in module HB.EXE - Could not load control file ""****

When I try to go to my bookmarked credit card page it says,

*****
Browser Alert
You cannot access Online Account Services with your current Web browser.

Possible reasons for this could be one of the following:

You are using Netscape 4.0 through 4.07, which we cannot support for online account transactions due to security reasons.
You are using a browser that is incompatible with our Online Account Services system. We suggest Netscape version 4.08 or higher or Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher. For Macintosh users, we suggest Internet Explorer version 4.5 or higher.
Your browser does not support 128-bit encryption.

Which I think is silly b/c I have all of the above (IE 6 and 128 encription (I think))

Does this help any?

Thanks,

You have a virus/trojan on your computer.

This may also help.
Some Web Site Services Do Not Work After You Upgrade to Internet Explorer 6
Some Web site services may not work properly after you upgrade to any of the
versions of Internet Explorer listed at the beginning of this article. The
Web site may suggest that you need to enable cookies or upgrade your browser
to one that supports Java, frames, or other technology that is supported by
Internet Explorer 6.
For example, when you attempt to log on to, or use, a secure banking Web
site, you may be prompted to upgrade to a compatible browser or a different
version of the same browser.
