50% kernel time on IDLE time

Hi,

My computer (running windows XP) is idle but task manager reports that
50% CPU is being used constantly. When I turn the "Show Kernel Times"
flag it appears that all the time is being spent in kernel. However,
all applications are consuming 0% and the "System Idle Process" is
consuming 96% which is normal.

I have already tried running my AntiVirus and Adaware but didn't find
anything.
How can I determine what seems to be the problem?

Hi,

at first, 96% on ifle time isn't normal, I think it must be 99%. Have
you checket your memory ? on of our customers
had the same problem, and it was one memory modul which was failure
processing. So the system was always used nearly by 50 % because the cpu
have tried to correct this failures. Another problem can be a big
fragmentation of you pagefile.sys. How big is the pagefile ? How much
memory have your system ?

Try to defrag your system, then check your memory (try memtest86 its
free).

Sorry for my bad english.

Regards Sebastian
