Was going through the job listings for fun and found one that said:
"Required: 5 years .NET experience". Um... before I laugh, was .NET out in
2000?

Anna

when they say x years experience that is usually flexable, and picked by
someone who has no idea what they are talking about with my experience in
the past..

Well the first public prerelease version was released in the middle of
2000 IIRC, so it's not impossible to have 5 years experience with it.

Hi...
Well seems to me that he is looking for one of the architects of .net
framework from Microsoft ;)

Aws

If you've been on the beta list since the COM+2 days then six years is
possible.

Not in public release.

I think that 3 years of experience with .NET will suffice for most jobs like
that.

they have no idea what they are talking about.
I have been asked one time by a recruiter if I had 7 years of expreince
with .net ! ...

Maybe he wanted to know if you know since when .NET exists... :-).

I think the question to be asked is "do you want a job with a company like
that"?

If yes, then it should be pretty easy to snowball them.

Was first beta issued in 2000 or 2001? I think first preview was available
in 2000. However this is not that important now. Try to find out what is the
"real question".
