48-bit LBA on boot drive

Slipstream the SP to a new win2k install disk, thus biglba will be enabled
by default

I had a motherboard fail just prior to installing a 200GB drive. The drive
is a replacement for an 80GB drive that has been running nearly 24/7 for >3
years (cautionary maintenance). The 80GB was to become a scratch disk and
store for replaceble reference data. The Win2K repair process for the
replacement motherboard, in which pre-SP4 Windows components are
reinstalled, caused me to wonder:

What happens if I enable 48-bit LBA in Win2K, use the 200GB drive as boot
drive, then have to install another motherboard that requires a repair
install of Win2K? Will the drive be inaccessible to pre-SP3 Win2K, or will
it be OK as long as the boot partition is less than 137GB?

thanks for any edification,
nf

Had to Google "slipstream windows 2000 install" to understand "slipstream,"
but now am much edified.

Thanks much for the suggestion,
nf
