4 monitor problems

I was wondering if anybody has been able to get a PCIx video card and a PCI
card together on Vista Ultmate x64 so you can do 3 - 4 monitors.

I have a Quadro with support for 2 DVI monitors and PCI GeoForce card with
VGA support.

Is there a matrix on which Nvidia cards work with each other in Vista and
the same for ATI cards.

Any ideas?

One uses multiple graphics cards ONLY on specialized motherboards, and
then NOT to run 4 monitors but to render 3D graphics better (the cards
can share the processing load). When doing that, the graphics cards
aren't your everyday cards. Each will cost as much as a low-end
computer.

Windows supports up to ten (10) monitors. Two monitors relatively simple
since all you need is a card with two ports. Support for multiple cards
must be supported by the system board.

DVI ports are specific for LCD monitors - port selection is usually via the
OS. Since you have two DVI ports a two port VGA card would permit four
monitors - but then again check documentation.

"One" can use 4 monitors for whatever the hell "one" wants to! who are
you - the monitor police? I have a 3 monitor set-up with 2 video cards
running on a 4 year old sony Viao upgraded to Vista Business. I do not do
3d graphics, but love all the desktop landscape for video and photo editing.

Do you mean that you want to use two different video cards in your system?

Well, there are some restrictions when you do this. Of course, firstly you
should make sure the motherboard and these two video cards can work
together and all of them can officially support Windows Vista.

Besides, if you want to use different video cards in one machine running
Windows Vista, you should make sure that all of these video cards can
leverage on the same driver. This means that you can install only one
graphics driver for all of these video cards.

That is not exactly true. If your graphics cards are of the "older" (winXP)
variety, Vista will accept and install 2 video drivers as long as both are
XPDM drivers.
Most the newer cards use WDDM and then Vista will only accept a single
driver. Also you can NOT mix types. (i.e. 1 WDDM and 1 XPDM)

if you are unsure, check the websites for your PC mfg, and the graphics card
you want to add.

Yes, I believe you are correct, when I had two older cards it did indeed
install two drivers, in fact the same driver twice. The confusing part
was that the first "Reboot" screen covered up the second "Install now"
(or whatever) so until I figured out to check for a hidden screen driver
#2 was not getting installed
