3rd party app & installer running

I've installed a 3rd party application. Every time I start it up or
use one of its features, an unrelated installer runs. I think the app
is searching for installers in alphabetical order. I have to hit
cancel repeatedly in order to keep my 3rd party app working.

Where do I find the entries or files that cause the installer, and how
do I modify them so the installer doesn't run?

I'm using XP Home SP 2.

Thanks!

Ah, yes. I ran into that problem when ATI Tray Tools kept causing the iTunes installer to run. I reported this to Ray Adams, the
author of ATT then told him to ignore it later when I figured out why it was happening (it had nothing to do with ATT.)

It looks like you've already figured this out for yourself. I'm guessing this problem is with the Microsoft Installer System (MSI),
correct? MSI uses databases instead of simple registry entries or ini files, so it won't be easy to alter, it's not as simple as
removing an entry. Honestly, the easiest way to fix this is to just let the installer finish; obviously the installation did not
complete successfully or some part of it was not installed before but now needs to be. I would recommend reinstalling or running a
repair on the app that's trying to finish/repair the install, or just getting the MSI file from the app's installation folder and
pointing the installer dialog at it next time it pops up.

OK. So I downloaded the installer cleanup utility from MS, and used
it to clean up Excel 2000, which is what the installer kept running
and running and running whenever I'd start up a third party app ..
Didn't matter which app -- if I uninstalled one app, the Excel
installer would try to run a marathon on another ...

So that killed my Excel 2000. Then I reinstalled Excel. And spent
two hours downloading the first rollup SR1a. Then SP3. And voila!
It works nicely and the darned installer quit running.

I think the problem was caused during my first original install of
Excel 2000. The SP2 & SP3 updates wouldn't install, no matter what.
After that, windows installer started out on its long journey.

I like you guys -- but I didn't get much help here on this one issue.
I hope it isn't because I mentioned that I have started trying
Shavlik.com for my MS patches? I hope that didn't offend anybody.
