3d reference not working properly

I am trying to refer to various cells in sheet1, I can click and point to
most cells but several cells when clicked in do nothing. I checked formating
and they are not locked nor is the sheet protected. I tried formating those
cells with ones that are working and didn't work either. I can manually type
the cell reference and it works but wonder why it doesn't work when using the
mouse?

I'm using Excel 2000, any suggestions?
 
There is a limit to the number of selected ranges. According to Excel Help
it's 2048.
