3Com modem with no sound

Mark

I have a Micron Trek2 that used to have Windows 59 on it.
Wiped drive and installed Windows 2000 Prof.

I have a 3Com 3CXEM556B 10mbps LAN+56K Modem PCMCIA Combo
card. I can connect to dial up network but I cannot hear
modem handshaking---nothing. I have checked Modem in
Control Panel and verified volume controls---nothing is
mute.

Ther are not 2000 drivers for card because it is old.

Any ideas anyone or have you seen this before?

Thanks

If the modem drivers were not installed by Windows 2000, then the user
will have to do it. If available, use the Windows NT drivers and install them
via the Add/Remove Hardware applet or Device Manager.
