32/64 Bit

I have an OEM 64Bit Version of VHP. Many of the programmes I use will
reportidly run on Vista 32 but do not appear to run on the 64bit version. Is
it possible for me to delete the 64bit version and reinstall the 32bit
version and use the same license key? I have access to a 32bit non OEM
upgrade disc .

Hi Paul,

VHP doesn't normally come preinstalled in 64-bit, even though the system may
be 64-bit hardware. Are you certain this is what you have installed? If you
run "control system", it should tell you if it is a 64-bit OS under system
type.

32-bit programs should run fine under the 64-bit OS, provided they do not
include 32-bit device drivers. These latter software files must be signed
64-bit versions. What won't run are 16-bit programs, 32-bit ones simply run
in 32-bit mode.

Your license key should work in either 32 or 64 bit, but the media type must
be the same. Retail and OEM keys and media are not interchangeable. In other
words, if you have an OEM key, you cannot use it to install with a retail
media disk, it has to be an OEM media disk (and vice-versa).

Thanks for your help. It is a 64bit version. If I understand you right if I
get an OEM 32bit OEM disc I can use my registered Key. I assume that since
the disk says 64bit then the 2 versions are only on the retail version.

Hi,

Yes, you should be able to use your key with a 32-bit generic OEM (many
manufacturer's lock their OEM disks so they will only install to their
hardware). A disk contains either the 32 or 64 bit version, but not both.
