winver doesn't state if windows is 32 or 64 bit. How do I find out?
TIA

sorry, didn't mean to be glib. but, unless you've got a time machine, it's
32-bit.

Actually, if you have to ask, it's 32 bit. If it was 64, you would know.

Check your wallet for Xmas money. If you have some to buy presents,
then it's 32 bit.

If XP doesn't specify whether it's 32 or 64-bit, it's 32.

Thank you! BTW, where does it verify that info? Now you've got me curious.
What is the dollar difference between reg win and 64 bit.

There is no price difference. You cant buy the 64-bit edition by itself.
You must purchase it on a new PC (or have a MSDN sub.). PC's start at about
$3000.

Not just a new PC, but a new 64-bit processor PC. The last I heard XP
Pro 64 bit only worked with the Intel Itanium, although they were
testing the release for the new AMD 64 bit chip (name escapes me). By
now, they may have released it as well.

The point is, you'd know if you bought a 64 bit processor. They
aren't as common as the 32 bit Pentium/AMD Athlon lines.

Greetings --

If you have to ask, you're almost definitely running the 32-bit
version of WinXP. (I'm not trying to be facetious; I'm sure you'd
have noticed paying several thousand dollars more for the Itanium or
Itanium II CPU required to run the 64-bit version of WinXP Pro.)
There is, of course, no 64-bit version of WinXP Home.

To verify for yourself, Click Start > Run, type in "Winver" and
press <Enter>. If the resulting dialog box does not _explicitly_
state that you have "Windows XP 64-Bit Edition," then you have a
32-bit OS.

Windows XP 64Bit for AMD chips will be released mid-2004. It only runs on
Intel chips right now.
