300 dpi

hello -

does anyone know if a TIFF format digital picture taken by a 3.3 Megapixel
camera will be the standard 72 dpi or will it be closer to 300 dpi?

I need a 300 dpi photograph for a magazine article.

When I take a normal 72 dpi photograph and enlarge it in Photoshop 7.0 to
300 dpi, it seems to get pixelated. My instincts tell me that this is a
stupid idea anyway and will never work. Any ideas?

Thanks very much

300 dpiThe picture must be about 2200x1500 pixels so if you want it to be 300 dpi then print it 2200/300x1500/300 or 7.3 x 5. Every inch will contain about 300 pixels. So it is closer to 300 than to 72 as long as you print it no bigger than 5x7.

A 3.3 Mp tiff file from a digital camera can be changed
to any DPI desired. The key to getting good prints is not
re-sampling the file. For instance a 3.3Mp file at 72DPI
gives a pixelated print of the dimensions 28.44"x21.33".
The same file changed to 300DPI without resampling would
print as a sharp 6.83"x5.12" image. In PS7, when changing
the image size, make sure the "Resample Image radio
button is not checked and you should get good results.
Good Luck.
