3 Days After Activation I'm getting Activation Error with no fix..

I've had my new PC 3 days. Its running Windows XP SP2.
I activated it immediately and it said it worked. Tonight I turn on the PC
and get the message "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft
before you can log on. Do you want to activate windows now? I click <YES>

Now a Windows product activation window comes up "Windows is already
activated. Click OK to exit." I click <OK> Back to the login screen and the
whole mess starts all over again.

I've avoided Windows XP for so many years for just this reason. I finally
agreed to try it on a new PC and here I sit.

Any ideas before I try and find an old W2K machine? Thanks...

Choose to call the toll-free telephone support number when the activation
request dialog window appears.

Hi Vanguard. I'm not sure what I'm "choosing" from. I didn't know there was
a "free" any telephone support. I don't get any options with the activation
screen other than <YES> or <NO> to "do I want to activate windows now?

Is there a phone number somewhere on the web site that I've missed? I
didn't think after 3 days I should have to pay for a tech support phone call.

You should get a Mac.Microsoft is always crashing!

Oooh, gee, what a helpful irrelevant response.

So if someone asks how to flush the coolant in their car, you must think
"get a bicycle" is an appropriate answer. Too bad biometric devices aren't
required for connecting to the Internet to keep out the infantiles wanting
to stroke their egos in public by making *some* post, any post.

You said that you did the activation (i.e., you answered Yes) and did it via
an Internet connect. Since the connect worked (at that time), there would
be reason to show a toll-free telephone support number. Do you see one if
you activate but say No? If that doesn't work, disconnect the network cable
and say Yes (so the Internet connect will fail).

Otherwise, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of Microsoft's web page to
navigate to a telephone number to call for manual activation (and to get a
rep to ask why the activation doesn't "stick"). Use the 800 number listed
on the contact page or follow the "Contact a support professional by phone
or e-mail " link and select Windows XP for the product. Activation should
NOT count against the 2 included free tech calls for the *retail* version of
the product (OEM versions do not include support from Microsoft except that,
I believe, they will still help with activation).

Not mine.
What do you do wrong that causes yours to be "always crashing"

Also, Windows is able to use a news reader.
Is your OS incapable of supporting a newsreader or are you incapable of
setting up a newsreader on your OS?

Clay, that sounds fine, but all I have done that may have involved the
registry was install new programs on the computer. And in any case, I went
through the steps early on of activating the OS with Microsoft online. First
it told me it was activated, now my PC sits there while this person who tried
to follow all of the rules is punished.

I'm just interested in getting my new PC working. I would appreciate it if
everyone could keep the flying back-n-forth insults to a minimum--Thanks!

Any ideas on how to fix my problem before I trash all of my work and start
from scratch?
