3.50" drive works on its own

Why does my floppy drive turn on, like it's trying to read
or write something to it, when there is no disk in it and
I'm not even working on my computer at the time?? It does
it about every 10 minutes.

It must be haunted by the file indexing ghost.

But like Casper, it's harmless.
