2nd WinXP

Hello. Living in France and bought a pc which came with WinXP in French.
Fine for the kids but tiresome for me. Is there a way, with the CD of the
english version, to ovewrite the french version?
Or to install a secondary Winxp English version? There is another hard drive
on the machine.
Thanks for any advice

Hi

Not with the French CD you have. You will have to purchase a full Retail
English XP CD. You can then either install the English version instead of
the French one, or as you have intimated, you can dual boot both versions.
The English version doesn't necessarily have to be installed onto a
different hard disk, but can be installed onto a different partition on the
same disk as the French version.

Yes, if you have the english version just install it overwriting the french.
you'll tell it to delete the partition and make a new one etc, it might be
ok to tell it just to install it, not deleting the partition, but i don't
know if it will let you. all very easy in the windows installer. if the kids
want the french version then you can install the english to the other hard
drive and dual boot.

Thanks for your replies.
I did bring with me a new English WinXP cd.
The thing I was worried about was that a friend of mine in Chile ended up
having both languages (in this case spanish of course) at the same time.
i.e. on the desktop there were 2 recycle bins, one for each language, 2 My
documents etc.
He didn't remember exactly how it happened, but it was very confusing.
Also I don't think it was XP. I have a feeling it was Win2000.

I forgot to ask!! with the methods you suggested to overwrite the french
version by installing the english cd, would it not format the C drive? which
I really don't want to do.
thanks

Hi

If you install the English version instead of the French version, yes you
will have to format the hard drive/partition.
