2nd cpu not detected by win 2000 server

i received a barebones system from a manufactorer that
came with 1 bad cpu, so i installed win 2000 server on the
dual cpu motherboard with only 1 cpu (2.4 ghz xeon). i
later received a replacement cpu from the manufactorer
which was installed into the 2nd socket. the bios
recognizes the 2nd cpu, i enabled hyperthreading in the
bios - problems is that only 1 cpu is showing up in 'task
manager -> performance'. nt 4 reskit had a utility
(uptomp - KB124541) that would allow you to upgrade the
hal to support the addition of a 2nd cpu. is there a
similar utility for win 2000 or a documented method for
performing this? i've searched the kb with no luck.

appreciate any assistance

Normaly you should have a MPS System installed (all dual/quad/octet systems
have MPS 1.4 or higher).

open Device Manager, Computer, the only think there and update the driver if

MPS-Uniprocessor-PC to MPS Multiprocessor-PC
or
ACPI-Uniprocessor-PC to ACPI-Multiprocessor-PC
or
ACPI-PC (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) to
ACPI-Multiprocessor-PC

if your system is shown as Standard-PC try an update to MPS
Multiprocessor-PC

BACKUP BEFORE !!!
