2nd. and final Akamai / Vista "fatal error" download error

This time I got 85% of the way through downloading.

I specifically chose to save the file when presented with a dialogue asking
me whether I wanted to save the file.

Then followed the "fatal error" warning.

Examining : C/Documents and Settings/Account Name/Application Data/Download
Manager

showed that all files had been ereased from that folder. The Desktop link to
launch the Download Manager had also been removed.

Final "fatal error" message because I am not going to waste my time trying
again another 12 hours or so.

Bill,
I'd be investigating if there is any other download manager that you can use
(if I was in your shoes).

I just saw a post re this in which 'Mike' says he used a different dl
manager:

"FWIW, I downloaded both x86 and x64 RC1 from the public server with my 6Mb
connection maxed out the entire time (I used the Reget Dl manager; Akamai
DLM has never worked right for me) Seems like they allocate a fair amount of
bandwidth.

I used my Opera browser to download it. Opera has a built in download
manager. I clicked on the Akamai link and it opened up to download in Opera
instead. Came down this morning (after 12 hour download) to find it had
stopped at 98%. Clicked on resume and the rest downloaded. DVD seems to
have burned okay. I will be installing it shortly.

I am a registered owner of the excellent Internet Download Manager software
from http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com

I have found this software far better than the Internet Download Assistant
program I once used. Blazing fast downoloads, completely reliable.

But unfortunately, IDM's downloader does not kick in automatically if I try
and download from the links Microsoft has set up for browser download.

thanks for replying, bw
