256 color display on windows 2000

my win 2k crashed and i have reinstalled the sw by
reformatting the harddrive (used NTFS format).

Currently the system setting shows only 16bit color
displays - i need help in understanding how to get 256 or
higher color

Can anyone help
 
Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest Windows 2000
driver for your graphics adapter.

Go to your video card mfr's website and download the latest W2k driver -
install it in device manager, reboot.
