250gig WD in ADS Drive Kit cannot be mounted all the time

I have similar problem as Keith in earlier messages. I
have a WesternDigital 250 Gig dirve in an ADS Technology
External Drive Kit USB2.0. Sometimes Windows XP has seen
the drive the I do an MS upgrade or load some software
(building a new pc) and the drive goes away. I then get
device not functional no drivers installed; auto install
or loading specific ADS drivers results in device cannot
be started [code 10]. This has been really frustrating.
If I put a 4 gig drive in, it ALWAYS WORKS FINE. There
is something with USB2.0 extrnal drives larger than 160
gig or whatever that limit is, the drive is not
recognized. ADS has pointed at MS, MS has not addressed
issue, and WesternDigital says MS had the drivers and WD
has no input. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE. Thanks in advance.
