We Live for the One we Die for the One

Iam just using a 250 watt power supply to try to get an Xp 2000 system
running and it powers up but thats about it not a beep ?

The PSU i think is 2.01 but is 250 watt would this stop the PC from
working all i have is the cpu fan, vidcard no other fans connected ?

Will try a 300 watt one to see if that works.

Thanks if you can help.

You already know the answer... 250W is not enough, now did you really have
to crosspost to so many groups?

Get a grip... 300W is not exactly a lot either. Get a decent 350W at a bare
minimum, or a cheapo 550W.

Of course, it would help if you had described the rest of your system.

Pretty much. You'll need a bloody good branded one and you won't be
able to run much kit on it.

World of difference between good brand name and generic though.

Actually that 250watt psu should be able to power your system to the post
screen at least, unless somethings defective

I am currently running an XP 2400+ with a 200 watt Enhance SFX power
supply that came with the desktop case. It also powers two 160GB hard
drives, a DVD writer, an AIW 7200 Radeon video card, and a MyHD HDTV
card.

HMMM might just be a buggered Mobo then though ill try the new PSU :)

Or even more likely, a poorly inserted connector or module, intermittently
bad cable or connector, or short somewhere between the motherboard and the
chassis. All are much more likely than a bad power supply or bad
motherboard in any system that gets fiddled with alot. The "larger power
supply advice" is completly bogus, as you stated that a bare bones system
would not even post. You might eventually need a larger power supply, but
certainly not based on the information you gave.

replace "at" with the 'at sign'
replace "mindjump" with "mindspring."

Nahh its a bad board, ploked in a new PSU and still the same thing its
never worked since i got it, should have taken it back but never did
:)

Its just a cheap peice of shit board i needed but didn't.

Its got no Cmos clearing jumpers ive tried taking hte battery out no
luck.

Just tried it now no bios info comes up, iam maybe thinking the Xp
2000 iam trying to boot with is not compatible with the board and
maybeif i used a 1.4,ect 1.2 lower it would work and let me atleast
setup and update the mobo bios so my xp 2000 can work.

Should it be able to boot with an xp 2000 ?

Its a Gigabyte ga-7vtxe+ if that helps any.

I hate to ask, but...

You didn't mention that you have any memory installed. You DO have
some RAM in there...right? lol

Yep a stick of 512 meg ? and tried it in all slots :(

I'd suspect the memory...especially a 512 on that board.

I tried it with 2 sticks of diff 512 ram, i would thing it can manage
half a gig stick fine, no i thiink the board is just dead, though for
some reason it has a green light that comes up on the board.

its either the board or the 2000Xp is not compatible with it though it
shoudl boot if i put a 2600 chip on it ?
Just not know what it is ?
