20081226: Can't get styles into a template

K

Keith Tuttle

I created a document (abc.doc) that has many new styles. It was based on the
global Normal.dot. I save the document as a .dot file (abc.dot), because I
want to copy those styles into a new file (def.doc, which is based on
xyz.dot). I got to Templates and Add-Ins, etc., as the Help instructs. When
I open the new .dot file (abc.dot), it only list the styles from the original
Normal.dot. It does not list any of the new styles. What am I doing wrong?

This is Word 2002.

This is fustrating. Any guidance is appreciated.

It may be that you just need to change the display in the Styles and
Formatting task pane from "Available styles" or "Styles in use" to "All
styles." Once you've used your new styles, they should be listed at least in
"Styles in use." You can also customize style visibility by choosing
"Custom..." and checking the styles you want displayed as "Available
styles."
