2004 Word Processor, Spyware

What is the best freeware Word processor. My wife really like
Microsoft Word. I'd like to get something that works like that.

I download a trial of a program called Spyware Doctor. It found 166
entries. I ran Adware and it for like 40 entries. This could be an
attempt by the makers of Spyware Doctor to sell the program. You cant
delete what spyware doctor finds until you buy the software...

Anyway familair with Spyware doctor..

You can always check this website for anti-spyware software:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Your Spyware Doctor is not tested (see the 'not on the list'-section). I
would recommend you to stick to Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy, they
are both on the good side of the list and I'll expect you to get this same
answer from other posters.

For a wordprocessor there's:

Atlantis Nova: http://www.rssol.com/en/html/download/nova.htm

CryptEdit: http://cryptedit.chat.ru/overview.htm

From PCMag review of Spyware doctor ($39.95):
< quote >
Sometimes identified itself as a suspect program.
...
Given the other strong antispyware options on the market today,
PC Tools' Spyware Doctor left us underwhelmed.

You should definitely check out OpenOffice.org:

http://www.openoffice.org/

I've used it and its word processor module is very similar to MS Word.

No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware, demoware,
nagware, shareware, spyware, time-limited software, trialware, viruses
or warez please.

Because Andy Mabbett is stalking me in this group, I have him killfiled.

I just took it off my boss's spyware infested laptop last night. It's
garbage.

Spybot S&D and Ad-aware cleaned it up just fine.

Please help. I recently downloaded both Spybot S&D and Ad-aware but am not
sure how to tell it which things to remove. Can anyone give me some
guidelines or help with this issue?

Both programs will identify the Critical items in red -- at the top of
the Spybot list and under a separate tab in Ad-aware. Let the programs
remove those. The non-critical items are optional, and won't cause any
harm.

Thanks. I appreciate it.

You might try Abiword. GPL, advertised as being similar to Word.
I download a trial of a program called Spyware Doctor.

Stick with Spybot Search & Destroy for spyware and Adaware from Lavasoft
for adware. CWShredder and Spywareblaster can help also. They're all free,
updated relatively frequently, and reputable.

Regarding CWShredder... that program was abandoned by its author
(Merjin), and hasn't been updated in some time. (Yes, I know another
outfit is claiming to have taken over its development -- I'm maintaining
a wait-and-see attitude about that.) Nevertheless, Lavasoft (Ad-aware)
seems to have done a good job of taking up where Merjin left off. Just
yesterday I used it on my boss's laptop, and it cleaned up twelve
instances of CoolWebSearch and the 'about:blank' hijacker (among other
less notable critters). I won't say that Lavasoft is going to be as fast
with the updates as Merjin was, but they seem to be doing their level
best to stay on top of this particular parasite.

Ah, thanks for the update...haven't visited the site in a while, and was
unaware of the CWShredder situation.
