2003 will not open docs with pictures

Word 2003 will not open documents with pictures inserted.
The documents have been created with word 2000 and are saves as .doc.
If the documents are converted to rtf they will open with word 2003.
Dose anyone have any ideas.

In Word 2003, try using the "Open and repair" option in the
File->Open menu.
