2003 Plain Text Message automatically double-spaces

Whenever I create a new plain text message or reply to a received plain text
message, it defaults to double space, both within and between paragraphs. I
want it to default to single space, at least within paragraphs.

In rtf or html mode, I do not have these problems. I have checked a number
of forums and have not found anyone else having this problem. It occurred
after the original installation.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Where they converted to plain text from HTML? Do you use word as your
editor? If so, do you have the same problem in word?
