2000 and 98 at the same time

G

gavin hartnett

how can I run 98 and 2000 at the same time so I can have
each os doing things while I am using the other and I can
maybe toggle between the two.
This is to solve the problem that I want to use an
application that only runs on 98 and me.
If there is a solution other than running both versions at
the same time, please include.
Thank You,
Gavin

Hi Gavin

You can cannot start more than one OS at the same time on
a simgle machine. However, you can install more than one
OS the same system. I suggest you install the Windows
98/Windows ME first. You could install the Windows 2000
as a fresh installation on a different folder. I suggest
you empty one the the hard disk partition and convert the
partition to NTFS when you installing the Windows 2000.
Select appropriate option during the Windows 2000
installation. This would enable you to use the Windows
2000 file system security features. You could even
install the Windows 2000 in the same partition were the
Windows 98 lies. If you wish install the Windows 2000 on
the same partition were the Windows 98 installed, please
select leave the partition as it is when prompted while
installing the Windows 2000. If install the Windows 2000
on the FAT32 partition you will not able to assign folder
level/file level security. After you finish installing
the Windows 2000 it would create Boot.ini file. This will
prompt you select OS when you start the system.

Thank you,
Jason.

You CAN install both on the same partition, but you SHOULD NOT.
You're probably asking for more touble than it's worth. Win 98 and
2000 would be sharing several folders and problems may (probably
will) arise as a result.

Highly recommended to install Win98 on one partition, and Win2000 on
another.

Read KB article 289283 for more details.

VMware may be what you're looking for. It looks cool.

It doesn't just look cool; it is cool.

A little pricey for home use, though.
