2 XP's UNHIDDEN a bad idea?

I have 2 XP's installed on HD & have been booting EITHER 1
for yrs with 0 problems. In spirit of BartPE, I was
experimenting with booting 1 but leaving other (1st)
UNHIDDEN- use XP2 to repair XP1. So there r 2 sets of sys
files cause there are 2 WINDOWS folders visable! It was
after 2-3 runs in this configuration that I booted to
recurring logo & retort which was not fixed by replacing
KERNEL32. I've had unexpected behavior with
TweakIU & CHKDSK too so I'm prone to conclude that having 2
XP's UNHIDDEN is a bad idea. Would you agree? Any1 had any
success?

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.
Thanks- bye- Larry

Its called dual booting and it is possible by using partitions.Installing 2
XP onto the same partition/HD is a no no as you just found out
You divide your HD into partitions ...lets keep it simple and say
2.........C and D
You then install XP new onto C and from within that installation do another
new installation of XP but to the D drive.
XP will create the boot files on the C drive and a boot screen will show
giving you the option of which XP to boot into,
It helps to label by means of a different installation directory XP install
#2 so that you can tell which is which.

Do a google on dual boot and you will find lots of info and more detailed
how to

Greetings & thank you for your response.:

Copying C: to D: is much faster

Doing copy there is no way to tell except use PM to see what
primary is active. I immediately changed wallpaper so its
obvious.

I find lots of 'how to' which I know since been doing it for
years. Lots on XP & Linux dual booting.Nothing on what
doesnt work. Some bad advice- 'I would just use the Windows
XP boot loader to manage your multiple XP installations'
doesnt work.

Are your comments Peter on 2 XPs unhidden being a 'no-no'
based on personal experience? Any idea why XP gets confused
about which partition it's running from?

Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry
