I am trying to figure out how to use outlook 2003 at work and 2002 at
home. I want amon other things to hae a simple global inbox I can use
to have all my accounts feed into. this way I don't have to switch
back and forth between accounts to read mail and I can see all mail
when it arrives.

Also I want to use the standar windows ftp client to get files off of
ftp servers but I'm new to it and have not really had to use it very
often. Can I have a link to any documentation on ftp.exe. Yes I
already checked on the MS website and it is full of documents which
troubleshoot ftp.exe when it is not working but it doesn't seem to be
have information on how to use it from the command line.

any help would be appreciated
johnt

Outlook allows as many email accounts as you wish to be configured. XP
allows each user to have a unique identity.

So given the above: if No1 User has 4 email addresses, email1...email4,
login as No1 user to XP.

Open Outlook [2003 or earlier].

Click on Tools
Click on Email Accounts
Assuming you already have email1 set up, you can now add email2...email4 one
at a time.

This will collect all the emails from the various servers onto your inbox in
Outlook. You may wish for one or more accounts to go deeper into the
settings and 'leave a copy of message on the server' if you use a second PC
elsewhere and want the email viewable on both systems.

ok. now I will add that one of those accounts is a hotmail account.
Can I still force all messages to to still go to this local inbox?

Thank you, Carey and Bar for taking the time to respond btw.

I'll also go check out the ms newsgroups.

I went to the microsoft website and for the record it will do global
inbox for pop3 accounts but not for WebDAv accounts like hotmail.

thank you again.

Is this a statement or a question?

It's a statement......

According to one of the MVP's on he forum it will gather all pop3
accounts but it will keep separate an account lke Hotmail. Not sure
why it is different........... it may be due to the way you do email
with webdav. You get the headers and download what you want etc. This
may not be posible on a pop3 setup.

I just wanted to know if it were possible to do this to simplify
managing multiple email addresses.

To switch a little, has anyone heard of any plans by Microsoft to
discontinue hotmail usage through Outlook and OE for free accounts even
for those grandfathered in under the old rules? He also told me that
at the end f the month all free hotmail accounts would be web based
only even older account holders.

See here..

From that article I gather that the days of free oe access are
numbered. For now I received an email from hotmail mentioning in part
that: "because you are an existing and valued customer, at this time
your current Hotmail and MSN account(s) are exempt from this
restriction and you will be able to continue enjoying access to those
accounts from Outlook or Outlook Express. However, any new Hotmail or
MSN accounts you create will not be accessible via Outlook or Outlook
Express."

To me this means that at a time they deem convenient, they will cancel
out all free holders.

I sure hope gmail doesn't go premium as soon as it comes out of beta
testing.
