ok, i have looked around for resolutions to these and
although found similar articles, i have tried with no
success. Have win2k SP4. not sure if an update was the
main cause, or a worm of some kind.
firstly, on startup i get a popup window for winsck and
status. This does not appear to affect anything.
Secondly, when I select properties from desktop context
menu, or select help from start menu, or select properties
for my computer, or open SQL server enterprise manager,
the shell dialogue is not displayed (ie nothing happens).
I found an article (260703) showing similar symptoms on
Win98 where it says to delete non-standard registry keys
from the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Controls Folder\Display\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers.
Tried this and same result. I found another article saying
to add a * to an exeshell extension but it already had the
*.
Many other dialogues are fine (e.g. file right click
properties).
Any ideas out there?
