2 Instances of IE running

Running Vista Home Premium on HP Pavilion
When checking Task Manager I always find 2 instances of Internet Explorer
running. One is C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and the other
is C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieuser.exe.
Why is is necessary for both of these exe's to run? Also, when I close IE it
is slow to shut down. I can open Task Manager and End Process on both exe's
and shut it down faster than it will shut down on it's own.

In Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 runs in Protected
Mode, which helps protect users from attack by running the Internet Explorer
process with greatly restricted privileges. Protected Mode significantly
reduces the ability of an attack to write, alter or destroy data on the
user's machine or to install malicious code Thus, If you start Internet
Explorer, it will first launche IEUser.exe, which sets the security settings
of the Internet Explorer to the medium level.

Thank you for your reply. I see that IE runs in protected mode. I don't
understand why IEUser would set the security settings for IE to medium level
when I have higher than medium level settings? Does this mean IE isn't really
running with my settings in place?

IEuser sets the Vista security level, not the one in Internet Option |
Security, things like folder access and the sandbox.
