2 graphics cards/4 monitors ?

Dear group,

My first PC had a Matrox G400 dualhead. It was a bit lacking in resolution
and 3D speed, but I loved the 2D quality and its functionality.
My current machine has an ATI8500DV which is a bit nippier, but the
dual-head interface is as clunky as hell. I'm now regretting not waiting for
the Matrox Parhelia ....

I am fairly demanding and the system will have to feed my existing main
monitor at 1600x1200 on the ATI.whilst displaying winamp visualisations on
my TV on the second output.(playing an audio stream)

I hope to obtain and fit a Matrox dualhead PCI card to feed a 1024 x 768 LCD
adjacent to my main monitor to give me more desktop, with the second output
feeding a second LCD upstairs via a long VGA cable .....

Will this work ? , how restricted will the mirroring / extending screen
configurations be, and whose set of advanced controls will I see in Display
Properties ?

You may well ask why I don't just run multiple PCs on a network, but I'm not
a gamer and my relatively slow 1.33GHZ Athlon-based PC has power to spare
......

I'm running XP Pro

any advice would be very gratefully received.

thanks awfully :)

I do not believe that the VGA cable would work correct;y. Ghost images
echos will appear. However, I saw recently an utility which would allow you
wot "remote" a monitor via an ethernet cable and a laptop.

It should. See:

Sorry, I should have said I also have a Belkin KVM switch/booster and used
to have my LCD in the kitchen (original intention was to be able to use it
in the garden)

Doubtless I may well end up with a networked laptop somewhere in my system -
though as a cyclist I really need something lighter .....
