2 computer network - access problems

I have 2 windows xp computers connected together through a cross over cable.
When I initially ran the network set up, I was able to see icons for both of
the computers on one of the computers, and neither of the icons on the other
when I went to view workgroup computers. Now, I can see neither, and get an
error message on both computers. <workgroup name> is not accessible. You
might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this work group is not currently available.

What do I do to fix this?

i have the exact same problem only on a wireless network.
if anyone knows how to fix this please give us a shout.
