I am trying to install dial-up software on my parents
Windows XP system. I keep getting 1603 and 1606 errors.

Where is the best place to go for reference and help on
troubleshooting these sorts of issues for Windows XP?
Thanks in advance.

1603 errors often relate in my line of work to a feature
transfer error. In my case it is because the user is
trying to install software onto a machine whilst the MSDE
(Microsoft Data Engine) or MSSQL server is running and it
cannot do so as the file needing to be updated is in
use.

Not knowing what components make up your software, I
would suggest that you look for any items running in the
system tray or task manager that could be related to the
software that you are installing. Close these down and
you should find that the install will go through fine!
Ensure that you do not have any AV software running or
you may find yourself getting a 1628 error!
