160 gigger

I'm running Win2k Pro on a Soyo KT333 DRAGON Ultra and bought a WD
160gb Special Edition. When partitioning all went well but I put a
40gb partition on the end which fails a full format. I was able to do
a quick format and saving a small text file to it worked fine. I
didn't use the controller card that came with it and have not done any
BIOS upgrades. Is there a BIOS upgrade that will ensure that it works
properly or do I really need to use the controller card? The drive is
currently on the onboard Highpoint controller and I have the latest
drivers.

I'd put it on the controller card - it sounds like the Highpoint
controller isn't properly handling LBA-48.

Any particular reason why you want to do it the hard way?

*Everything's* IRQs are on 11. With the onboard NIC, Santa Cruz and
PNY GF 4600 packed on there with everything else It seems my online
gaming performance is slumping Sometimes it appears everyone complains
of bad lag upon my arrival. I'm not much looking forward to the
possibility of adding another device on the pile.

Thx.

Then don't use the 160G drive.

I had a friend of mine with the same problem - switching to his
Ultra100 card with the most recent drivers took care of it for him.

But it's not that everything's on 11, that's a byproduct of running
ACPI.

What kind of internet link do you have? If it's a cable link, it
could just be the high latency most cable systems seem to have.

Comcast cable. Most everywhere I go I get kudos on my ping. We're in a
firly small townhome complex the fiber feeds only us. Most folks have
dialup and there's a fair number of foks with DSS for TV.

I'll give the controller card a shot. Thx for the input.
